Is it just me that thinks 'minion' when first seeing this quirky vintage lamp?
It's actually part of an inspection lamp made by Mayer and Phelps of London, likely in the 1940s. As pioneers in ear, nose and throat apparatus from 1863, they made medical and dental equipment of the highest quality. In 1946 they became part of Downs Surgical Ltd.
Today, we look at this strange period inspection lamp and likely think industrial rather than medical - how times have changed. This one-eyed mounted and articulated lamp has a domed top and base and a prominent single protruding lens.
A quirky and rare British made period lamp that would look great repurposed for the home, workshop or retail premises...
