A large freestanding antique school, chapel or factory bell in rare bellframe. An intriguing piece set in an unusual stand. Perhaps the wooden arms either side of the top were handles by which four men could move it. Maybe the bell stood outside and these formed part of a roof or covering (note the angled top to each upright) - if you know, then do let us know. The good-sized bell has dual arms for attaching bell ropes, a sturdy head stock and its original clapper. Finished in a brown paint - the frame is sound and has through-bolts to keep the structure tight. The base is currently fixed to a make-shift wood stand for display only. A great piece for a courtyard or garden (with a roof over), to stand in a foyer or to hang once more in a bell tower and ring out the changes!
