A fine example of agricultural nostalgia - this fabulous large old oolitic limestone staddle stone is authentic, has great colour and a classic profile . The top is heavily pitted and the base has gentle striations - both have a warm golden hue and have aged beautifully. Created originally to raise agricultural barns and stores off the ground to allow air to circulate beneath - they also keep out vermin who might climb the base only to be out-smarted by the overhanging top. Sometimes called stathels, these two-piece stone mushrooms are both practical and beautiful - ideal for adding instant rural charm to any garden, courtyard or foyer.
