A large highly polished primary telescope mirror in a wood box to keep it safe. Inscribed with the date 31st March 1981 - this optical mirror is now almost 40 years old and no doubt has seen a great many wonders from across the known universe. The mirror is crafted from a single block of glass and the amazing parabolic (dished) finish is achieved often at the expense of between 50 and 100 hours polishing followed by anodising. The face appears to have a very light mark on it which we have tried to show the image that shows the face looking silvery but the line is so slight that it’s hard to photograph. It may well be possible to professionally polish out the mark? An unusual and highly prized piece that is at least a very tactile conversation piece and at best an economic head-start for someone building a large telescope! Warning - this mirror focuses light intensely! - do not use in the sun or leave in path of sunlight.
