Large Salvaged Riveted Iron Fire Basket with Fleur de Lys Andirons

An impressive wrought iron set that will bring warmth and grandeur to the hearth of any period fireplace. This large salvaged riveted iron fire basket with fleur de lys andirons has a substantial dished basket (sometimes called a 'saddle' grate) and half-height fireback. The riveted design and retaining spikes re-affirm the neo-gothic styling of this fine ensemble. Baskets such as these sit on two separate raised legs known as fire dogs or andirons (from the old French 'andier'). These keep the fire basket off the ground allowing air to freely circulate underneath and aid combustion. These particular andirons have scroll feet, barley twist risers and stylised fleur de lys finials
