Large Salvaged Pair of Blacksmith Made Andirons / Fire Dogs

A large period fireplace needs appropriately sized ironwork and these large salvaged pair of blacksmith made andirons or fire dogs are big! Used to suspend an iron fire basket off the floor to allow air to feed the fire from below - they’re a relatively simple design yet robustly made.  The widely spaced feet will see them sit firmly on the hearth whilst the scroll ironwork provides decoration and two hooks to take a spit across the front. Likely made in the mid 20th century, they possess a naive charm that would complement any cottage or country house inglenook or fireplace.
