With a history that began in the USA in the late 18th century - lawn jockeys or decorative footmen were first used to tether visitors’ horses or to light the way by means of a lantern suspended from the hoop. In recent years they have become a popular lawn statue or ornament finished in bright colours. This unusual detailed cast iron lawn jockey with hoop is one of a few designs that follow the pattern of the left arm extended and the jockey looking upward and outward in greeting.
