Stunning 2M Long 701Original Handmade Oak Cruck Style Table

Unique amongst reclamation companies, Warehouse701 design and create distinctive bespoke pieces of reclaimed furniture carrying the marque ‘701originals’. These hauntingly beautiful creations, combine authentic period artifacts, character aged wood and the skill of master craftsmen, to bring you stunning heritage pieces that define the genre. The latest is this magnificent English Oak table. Its medieval-inspired cruck bracing and tapering A-frame legs support an exquisite top hewn from a single piece of fiery grained English oak.

The timber for this substantial table came from a storm-fallen oak tree. Having seasoned naturally, it was sawn using an antique belt-driven circular saw powered by our own ‘Lady Sarah’ steam engine. It would be almost impossible to improve upon the pedigree and heritage of this incredible centrepiece.

At 2 metres long and a width that narrows naturally from 1 metre, the height was finished precisely to 745mm (or 29.3 inches), deemed to be the optimum table height by Thomas Chippendale since the 1700s. On the subject of the 18^th century, when the prized oak timber arrived at Warehouse701, lead carpenter Grant Withington, patiently counted each growth ring to discover that the tree was over 280 years old – a mere sapling when Chippendale was at his height.

Constructed using traditional tenon joints and pegs this fine example of Warehouse701 bespoke furniture was created for our customer Jane. The table was ordered, designed, built and finished in just 14 days. It was delivered and moved into place before being finely adjusted on the legs to account for slight variations in the floor. Jane’s follow-up email says it all “Just wanted to say a massive thank you. Your guys have just left after putting the table up. OMG we are so, so pleased with it. It looks absolutely amazing… Jane”
