Old Hand Carved Herefordshire Green Staddle Stone

A quality old hand carved Herefordshire green staddle stone with characterful deep chiselling marks around the top and on the base. Created originally to raise agricultural barns and storage buildings off the ground to allow air to circulate beneath and to keep out vermin which might climb the base but can’t get around the overhanging top. Sometimes called stathels, they’re two piece stone mushrooms that are both practical and beautiful - ideal for adding instant rural charm to any garden.
