A pair of two-tone electric bells by Winkworth. These were typically fitted to police, ambulance and fire brigade vehicles of the period (1930's to 1960's). The two bells are of different sizes and have distinctly different tones.
Each bell is mounted on a blue steel bracket and has a copper-wound solenoid inside connected to the fixed clapper. On working bells, when an electric current is passed though the mechanism the clapper vibrates at high speed creating a commanding, continuos ring.
The original chrome finish is now tarnished, scuffed and lightly pitted. Both bells ring clearly (manually) though the mechanisms have not been tested. Many such bells worked off 12 volts from a vehicle but we cannot confirm this in this case.
Please note: These bells are sold as a display item only. As these are all-metal bells, any electrical work/restoration must be carried out by a qualified electrician only.
The diameter of the bells is 16cm (lower) and 13.5cm (upper)
