Reclaimed Red and White Children Crossing Road Sign

Reclaimed Red and White Children Crossing Road Sign

An icon of British design, this 1960s design road sign is instantly recognisable thanks to the pioneering work of Margaret Calvert and Jock Kinneir who together revolutionised British Motoring in the 1960s. Of all the signs she designed this was one of her favourites. Over more than 50 years the image had become degraded from countless reproductions and digital copies. Today, all new signs are recreated from the original pattern - that includes the silhouette of the little girl that was based on Margaret Calvert herself!

We cannot be sure of the age of this particular sign but from the wear and patina - it's of a 'good age'. Modern signs are no longer permitted to be fixed 'through the face' as was this earlier example. This vintage item of classic British street signage was fully reflective and fixed via two semi-cir-clips to the rear.

A great decorators item for the quirkier interior, perhaps a children's play room or bedroom, or as an eye-catching addition to a retail shop or window display.
