Salvaged White and Gold Decorative Cast Iron Fire Surround
Code: W40A192
SOLD
A rather grand and highly ornate Victorian cast iron fire surround. Finished in White with gold-colour detailing.
The opening is double-framed with fixing points for a smoke hood and grate though these, sadly, are not present. The legs are deeply fluted with stepped bases and decorative elements including a classic floral urn.
The entablature consists of a deep mantle with dentils and a repeat indented pattern. The main frieze is dominated by a stylish Romanesque panel showing two lovebirds entwined on a pedestal with fruit and floral scrolls. Below this is another fine detailing of bouquets and swags.
This fine piece would make a lovely fireplace surround once more - either decoratively or, with the right hood and grate etc., part of a working fire. Alternatively it would make a great display piece in a coffee shop or restuarant or design accent in a retail display.
