Salvaged Cotswold Oolitic Limestone Staddle Stone

A rather elegantly carved and nicely coloured salvaged Cotswold oolitic limestone staddle stone. The hand chiseled top is beautifully weathered and the once fine base is now gently gnarled and pitted. Created originally to raise agricultural barns and stores off the ground to allow air to circulate beneath - they also keep out vermin who might climb the base only to be out-smarted by the overhanging top. Sometimes called stathels, these two-piece stone mushrooms are both practical and beautiful - ideal for adding instant rural charm to any garden, courtyard or foyer.
