Part of a unique collection of foundry castings and patterns exclusive to Warehouse701. Reclaimed from a long established iron works in Stroud, Gloucestershire now sadly closed. A unique opportunity to acquire items of Great British manufacturing that are part of our future national heritage. The highest quality patterns expertly crafted that have helped forge tens of thousands of industrial and creative pieces over time.
Patterns are master replicas of items to be moulded in cast iron, aluminium and brass etc. Pattern making is a highly skilled profession, learned through traditional apprenticeships and years of experience. Often made from wood, single or paired patterns are pressed into metal boxes of special sand to make exact impressions. The patterns are then removed and the two halves (boxes) of the mould are sealed together and liquid iron, steel, aluminium or bronze is poured in and allowed to cool and solidify. The mould is then broken apart, the sand discarded and the casting retrieved. Castings are typically trimmed of excess material, cleaned, machined and finished by buffing and polishing. Metal casting is an ancient skill with the oldest known casting of a copper frog dating to 3,200 years BC.
Please Note: these are sold as pairs.
We also have the very patterns from which these brackets were made at the foundry. These are shown in some of the photos on this page and are available to purchase separately (see 'you may also like' below)
