Wide Cast Iron Early 20th Century Grey Tractor Seat Marked 'R55'

A broad, deep rim iron tractor, thresher or seed drill seat with a single slotted or pierced pattern. The seats maker is unknown but it nears the mark 'R55' to the face and has a distinctive star burst mount underneath.

The overall shape is unusual too in that it has a very deep rim or collar to help keep the operator firmly in his/her seat over ploughed or uneven ground. A delightfully simple and plain seat that suggests functionality over style and that is surprisingly comfortable (yes, we tried it!).

These iconic agricultural seats are now collectable, often being converted into garden swings and kitchen stools or used as interior design features, highlighted with dramatic lighting.
