Cast Iron Column Bases

This substantial pair of antique cast iron bases was originally designed to support structural columns or architectural pillars. Each base features a classic fluted or ribbed column design rising from a solid, stepped plinth. The tops are square with hollowed centres, and one base retains a projecting flange or bracket, indicating how they were once secured to a larger structure.

The iron has a wonderful, authentic patina, with layers of weathered dark paint giving way to a rich, rusted surface. These are incredibly heavy and durable pieces that have transitioned perfectly from industrial or architectural components into decorative garden features. They would make imposing plinths for displaying large stone urns, statues, or sundials, adding a sense of Victorian industrial grandeur to a garden or courtyard.
