This traditional armchair is constructed from a variety of solid timbers, featuring a distinctive bowed backrest made from a single piece of steam-bent wood. The back is filled with several slender, hand-turned spindles that converge at a central, decorative "splat" featuring a pierced wheel motif.
The seat is carved from a single thick slab of elm, showing a deep, saddle-shaped contour for comfort and a prominent, swirling grain. The chair stands on four sturdy, ring-turned legs that are raked outwards and connected by a H-shaped stretcher system, also featuring decorative turned details. The armrests terminate in rounded "scroll" ends and are supported by additional curved spindles. The entire piece has a dark, polished finish with visible wear and smoothing on the arms and seat from historical use.
